Testimonials - TMS Therapy

“TMS hasn’t changed my personality at all, I am who I am; It’s more of the wanting to behave different…and I (now) look forward to doing all those things that I have been missing out on…. Dr. Stein is wonderful. She’s very attentive and caring; She validates your experiences. People notice, my girlfriends notice it over the phone, that I sound good. My one girlfriend said. ‘you sound hyper like you used to when we were in college.’ She goes, ‘The old Julie’s back!’ It’s an amazing gift, it really, truly is. There’s absolutely no reason not to do this.”

“As the first few weeks (of TMS) passed, I started to feel a difference; I started to feel more energetic, I started to add things slowly to my routine. I am not a person who easily takes risks and this risk was very worth it for me and I am really glad I did it and I don’t feel there has been any dangerous side effects at all, with very good results. So I would encourage people to find out about it (TMS). Read about it. Talk to a doctor about it. I’m just hopeful and grateful and feel blessed for the opportunity to be able to do this and to be able to work with such first rate people.”

“In the first couple of weeks, I noticed little changes: I started singing in my car again, which I hadn’t done in a really long time — and it’s something that I enjoy. It keeps getting better. It keeps improving day after day”

“In Her Own Voice: A College Student and West Coast TMS Patient Tells her Story of Response to TMS for Depression” – Blog Post March 2012.

WRITTEN TESTIMONY FROM MALE WEST COAST TMS PATIENT IN HIS 50′s:

“I had been on high doses of anti-depressant medication for over 20 years, with a diagnosis of major depression and PTSD. I had previously done 5 weeks of EMDR therapy (using blinking lights), and also 10 rounds of ECT (Shock Treatment) — neither as helpful as I’d been hoping.”

“Before starting the TMS I had been on double the maximum dose of Effexor just to stay ‘above water.’ There is no question that I am doing much better after the TMS treatment. I’m now on a much smaller dose of medication, and, in consultation with my regular doctor, Dr. Stein changed me over to a different medication that she felt would be better for me. She also sent me to specialists to check out other symptoms that she felt I might have, such as possible sleep apnea.”

“(During TMS), there is an adjustment period of getting used to sitting very still, and of feeling a brief tapping every 45 seconds or so during the treatment — but after the first few days the TMS felt quite routine. Watching TV helped occupy me; Dr. Stein had dozens of Blu-Rays of travel to exotic countries. And I frequently brought my own DVDs. A very caring and pleasant “TMS Expert” was always with me to monitor everything.”

“Dr. Stein is very caring and also very thorough. In fact Doctor Stein typically came in to say hello before the TMS session, even when I did not have an actual follow-up appointment scheduled that day, so that as a ‘bonus’ I was under continual medical evaluation during the whole process. It was very reassuring, and completely worthwhile. This isn’t the kind of “fast food” medicine that I’ve been used to. She listens and questions thoroughly to make sure that she has every nuance and context correctly understood in evaluating the situation.”

“(West Coast TMS Institute) has a friendly atmosphere, it doesn’t feel like a doctors’ office. Additionally, Doctor Stein’s TMS Coordinator, Erin, worked with me to devise additional lifestyle changes and activities to help combat against return of the depression. She went above and beyond the call of duty in helping me to get an exercise routine going. Everyone made me feel as if I was their most special patient. Dr. Stein and the others came to feel like family!”

COMMENTS ON OUR STAFF

The best thing about the staff at the office was that they were “friendly, calm, patient, empathetic, caring. The staff and Dr. Stein were very understanding and supportive when I was at my lowest point with depression. They treated me with respect and established a trust with me which was important for my move to remission. Erin (the TMS Coordinator) was patient & kind with all of my questions. Christine (a TMS Tech) was always concerned with my comfort level. Susan (a TMS Tech) was always friendly and caring. Dr. Stein is great about offering additional treatments to supplement TMS and help with recovery (remission).”

COMMENTS ON DR STEIN

Regarding Dr. Stein: “(Dr Stein) is concise and caring. She answers all questions promptly. She is thorough and calm.
She is empathetic, knowledgeable, kind & respectful. Very professional and caring. She listens carefully and her facial expressions and body language match how she converses and shows care. She is knowledgeable and wants to try (gives you the option) all treatments possible to supplement TMS.”

COMMENTS ON WHAT MAKES WEST COAST TMS UNIQUE

The patient went on to describe the West Coast TMS Institute as having “an atmosphere of professionalism and caring that perfectly compliment each other for optimal patient trust and comfort. Also, optimism and emotional support when you are not sure and are feeling hopeless.”

GENERAL SUMMARY ABOUT TMS EXPERIENCE

“TMS has been an amazing journey for me. I feel so much better than I ever imagined. I felt the veil of darkness lift at about 3 1/2 weeks and feel better than I have in years. I would recommend TMS to anyone who struggles with depression symptoms and has not found relief with meds.”
